Learn to Play

Program Details:

Meramec Hockey Club is one of the fastest growing hockey clubs in the St. Louis area. To introduce children 4-10 years old to the sport of ice hockey we offer a Learn to Play (LTP) program on Saturday mornings. Our LTP program is modeled after the USA Hockey, Hockey Initiation Program (HIP) and focuses on learning to skate and basic hockey skills at an appropriate pace. No previous skating or hockey experience necessary!  Click here to see photo's of a few of last years LTP participants.

We expect to have approximately 150-175 skaters in our HIP program. The players will be taught basic hockey skills by several certified coaches. Our program typically has 3 separate ice times, depending on the number of participants. For the first couple of weeks, the coaches will evaluate the players’ ability level. Then, your child will be placed in the appropriate session that corresponds to their age & ability level

Fall LTP / HIP:

We use a station format and work on all skating and stick handling skills necessary to advance to game play. Our program develops the players' skills in preparation for recreational and league teams in the future. We occasionally use small cross-ice games during the session to keep the young skaters interested.

On the last day of the program, we let the children play an actual hockey game against one another.  It is an opportunity for the players to show off the hockey skills that they have learned throughout the session. Following the game, we celebrate their progress with a recognition party!

Our fall session runs for 17 weeks with 45 minutes of ice time on Saturday mornings.  The 2014 program dates are TBD - we will post as soon as they are confirmed. The Fall LTP program is $200* per player. We do offer a buddy system to reduce the registration costs. Click on the links below for more details about our Fall HIP Program and Buddy Program.
